NL – Go Ye/L | 25th February 2019
Beloved Partners in Christ,
I thank God for your love, prayers and ongoing support of Go Ye Ministries Liberia USA Inc.
There is an urgent need and commitment towards addressing the spiritual needs, illiteracy and poverty of Liberians. It is against this backdrop that a faith-based (Christian driving) initiative for the vulnerable and underprivileged people needs to be ongoing, supported by Churches, faith-based organizations, and Christians so as to buttress the Government of Liberia.
Quick facts on Liberia:
- Jan 1821, early Christian Mission work, Lott Carey of Virginia, US, established Providence Baptist Church;
- 26th July 1847, Africa’s first black independent nation; declaration signed in Providence Baptist Church;
- 30 yr. civil crisis (14-yr civil war, 1990-2004, 250K deaths); first female President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf;
- 16 Ethnic Groups of Negro origin, 4.3m population (1.5m took refuge in Monrovia, 14 mile radius peninsula capital city); 80% illiteracy rate; 85% unemployment rate and climbing; Av. Family Size 8; Dependency ratio 100%; Av. Income US$100 per mo. (US$1=L$160); 80% of the people live in abject poverty;
- Liberia ranks 175 in 187 countries in human development;
- Ebola Virus outbreak March-December 2014 (Sierra Leone, Guinea and then Liberia), 1800 plus deaths in Liberia; (70+ health workers including 5 Medical Doctors);
- Impoverish and ignorant dwellers of one of Liberia’s slum areas, West Point estimates with some 50,000 low income dwellers is a prime example of the abject poverty, poor schools, broken health system and human suffering.
CHALLENGES:
- Patriotism, commitment of national leadership, national ethos/national identity;
- Broken Health System, denial of the ignorance, safe pipe borne water, sanitation and hygiene;
- “Ignorance, poverty, disease”, cultural practices, systemic corruption;
- Greed, guns, genocide, mindset of our people;
- Spiritual Warfare continues – the forces of darkness vs The Light; When the Pharoahs/Leaders refuse to listen and repent, GOD sends the plague!
BENEFICIARIES
Go Ye hopes to address the spiritual and material needs of 5,000 households in Margibi, Montserrado and Grand Bassa Counties with an approximate 10,000 direct beneficiaries. Notwithstanding, depending on the resources accumulated, the Go Ye also intent to benefit people in other populated counties in Liberia as well as hard-to-reach communities and rural areas.
Since 1989 (30-year), Post-war/conflict Liberia has created gaps, disconnect, post traumatic stress, survival mode, Ebola epidemic, economic depression, brain drain, miseducation, strategic innovation stagnation, unsustainable projects;
yet an eager youthful population (78% of 4.3m pop.) presents new opportunities for learning and self-reliance.
Proliferation of Churches, a time for change, projects and ways to measure and show how we build new sustaining communities are the order of the day.
“Jesus said,
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. … Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. Matthew 9:35-38 King James Version (KJV).
